Overview

THE ROLE

We are looking for a Senior Designer, Design Systems to own and evolve Herbalife’s design system and the foundational tools, templates, and workflows that enable our design team to deliver high-quality digital experiences.

This role goes beyond traditional component-library management. You will connect reusable design patterns, design tokens, documentation, and coded prototypes into a cohesive foundation for product design. With a strong command of Figma and Figma Make, you will help establish how designers use AI-assisted tools to explore ideas, build realistic prototypes, and collaborate effectively with Engineering.

You will partner closely with Product Design, Product Management, Research, and Engineering to make accessible, responsive, and consistent experiences easier to create—and to ensure our design system supports both the products we deliver and the way our teams work.

HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE

Own and evolve the design system

  • Own and evolve Herbalife’s design system, including components, interaction patterns, design tokens, libraries, and usage guidelines.
  • Build and maintain scalable Figma libraries using variables, modes, component properties, variants, and responsive layout practices.
  • Define standards for accessibility, usability, interaction behavior, and visual consistency across mobile and desktop experiences.
  • Ensure components and patterns support mobile-first design, localization, and varied content requirements.
  • Partner with Engineering to align design assets with coded components and tokens, resolve inconsistencies, and support accurate implementation.
  • Establish clear contribution, review, versioning, and release practices so the system can evolve without fragmenting across product teams.

Establish the foundation for AI-assisted design and prototyping

  • Develop and maintain reusable Figma Make Kits that help teams prototype with approved components, styles, and patterns.
  • Create and maintain guidelines files that give AI-assisted design and prototyping tools clear direction on design-system usage, accessibility, responsive behavior, and implementation conventions.
  • Standardize prototype starter templates with shared capabilities such as Desktop/Mobile toggles, consistent navigation, reusable layouts, and common interaction states.
  • Partner with Engineering to establish and maintain design-side practices for Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations that connect design context with approved development tools and workflows.
  • Establish repeatable workflows for moving from Figma designs to Figma Make prototypes and engineering collaboration, distinguishing exploratory prototypes from production-ready work.
  • Review AI-generated design and prototype outputs for quality, consistency, accessibility, and alignment with approved patterns.

Improve how the design team works

  • Help design and maintain the team’s working foundation, including file structures, shared libraries, starter files, templates, documentation, and collaboration practices.
  • Make effective workflows easy to adopt through practical guidance, examples, onboarding resources, and hands-on support.
  • Partner with designers to identify recurring needs and turn successful solutions into reusable patterns and tools.
  • Support product teams in adopting and extending the design system while balancing shared standards with product-specific needs.
  • Evaluate emerging design and AI-assisted tools through focused experiments, recommending adoption where they meaningfully improve quality or efficiency.
  • Use team feedback, adoption data, and delivery outcomes to identify friction and improve the system and supporting workflows.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

WHAT’S SPECIAL ABOUT THE TEAM

This role has horizontal impact across product teams and helps shape both the experiences we create and the way we create them.

You will work at the intersection of design craft, systems thinking, and emerging technology—building a shared foundation that makes high-quality work easier, reduces repetitive effort, and strengthens collaboration between Design and Engineering. Your impact will extend beyond individual features through reusable components, better prototypes, clearer standards, and more effective team workflows.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None. This is a senior individual contributor role that provides guidance, mentorship, and cross-functional influence.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • 6+ years of experience in digital or product design, with substantial hands-on experience building, maintaining, or evolving design systems.
  • Advanced command of Figma, including component architecture, Auto Layout, variables, modes, library management, and interactive prototyping.
  • Strong hands-on proficiency with Figma Make, including creating and refining functional prototypes and establishing reusable prototyping practices.
  • Practical understanding of Make Kits, guidelines files, and how to provide structured design-system context to AI-assisted tools.
  • Understanding of Model Context Protocol (MCP) and how integrations can support connected design-to-code workflows; ability to partner with Engineering on their use.
  • Experience creating reusable starter files, prototype templates, documentation, and workflows that support consistent work across a design team.
  • Deep expertise in component-based design, design tokens, interaction patterns, and scalable system architecture.
  • Strong visual and interaction design skills, with attention to detail across layouts, states, behaviors, and responsive experiences.
  • Experience designing accessible, mobile-first experiences that adapt effectively to desktop and support localization.
  • Experience collaborating closely with front-end engineers, including familiarity with how components, tokens, and responsive behaviors are implemented in code.
  • Ability to inspect and discuss prototype code, recognize implementation limitations, and communicate clearly with Engineering; production software development expertise is not required.
  • Strong systems thinking and the ability to balance consistency, flexibility, usability, and ease of adoption.
  • Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs and apply human review rather than treating generated work as inherently correct or production-ready.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to explain standards and help teams apply them effectively.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
