The Sr. Pilot Plant Technician will support the Technical Services department by conducting experiments employing the rigors of food/pharmaceutical sciences and/or engineering. The Sr. Technician will be required to generate product and commercial samples along with documentation of all the data generated during this process. This position is also responsible for maintaining the laboratory workspace, equipment and inventory to meet all requirements of Good Manufacturing Practices.

 

A solid background in the scientific method is required to complete day-to-day tasks. This position requires the ability to work independently on routine jobs, with general instructions on new assignments. In summary, this position is required to deliver quality projects on time and within budget to support the Herbalife Innovation and Manufacturing site at Lake Forest, CA

 

HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT: 

 

As a Senior Pilot Plant Technician, you won't just be running experiments — you'll be a hands-on contributor to the science behind Herbalife's innovations, with your work directly influencing what reaches the market. Every batch you produce, every result you document, and every piece of equipment you optimize helps bring better products to consumers faster.

  • Implement activities as assigned, including dispensing of raw materials, generation of product and commercial samples for process and ingredient evaluation, and manufacture of pilot batches required for manufacturing process evaluations.
  • Perform basic chemical, physical and performance tests on raw material and finished products, as directed. Record and publish results in batch records/protocols and/or laboratory notebooks and electronic files.
  • Set-up, maintain, and clean laboratory equipment and work area. Work with maintenance department/equipment suppliers to ensure the completion of preventative maintenance, calibration, and/or repairs of lab equipment.
  • Maintain raw material inventory. Support Engineers with requesting raw materials from the Production Warehouse and maintaining raw material documentation database.
  • Prepare sample submission forms and collect data from testing labs as needed.
  • Support documentation activities; create Agile change requests for new Item Master entries (i.e. Raw material, Formula and Premix numbers) in Oracle. Generate simple changes to packaging master batch records in the Electronic Batch Record (EBR) system.
  • Perform a wide variety of development and/or production laboratory tasks and experiments.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

•    The Technical Services team is comprised of members with unique background experiences that ensure each teammate is always learning multiple facets of the business from the development process through commercialization.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS: 

 

Experience


•    3 years of relevant experience 

 

Education


Bachelor’s degree in food science, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical engineering

 

OR

 

Associate degree + 4 years’ experience in a pharmaceutical or food manufacturing or laboratory environment with the ability to perform advanced mathematical and scientific computations.

 

 

Skills/Certifications 
•    Ability to organize workload, prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines for deliverables.
•    Good understanding of Microsoft Office and other job-related software.
•    Ability to multi-task on several projects individually as well as in a team environment.
•    Maintain and operate laboratory equipment according to equipment instructions and SOPs 
•    Strong problem-solving skills and being able to carry out assignments under general supervision
