Overview

THE ROLE:

 

This role is accountable for crafting, implementing, and supporting enterprise-grade Power BI solutions that empower data-driven decision-making across the organization. The Principal I, Power BI Architect will lead the development of scalable data models, enforce governance standards, and optimize performance across the Power BI ecosystem. This role requires deep expertise in Power BI architecture, DAX, SQL, and cloud platforms such as Azure and Snowflake. The ideal candidate will also support Power BI Embedded implementations and CI/CD practices, ensuring seamless integration with web applications and backend systems. Proficiency in Direct Lake and Delta Table integration, knowledge of Power BI capacity units (CUs), and experience with Power Apps are highly valued.


HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:

 

Power BI Architecture & Solution Design:
· Lead the development and implementation of end-to-end Power BI solutions including reports, dashboards, and semantic models.
· Architect scalable and performant data models tailored to business needs.
· Establish and uphold standards, governance, and practices for Power BI development.
· Guide the use of advanced Power BI features such as calculation groups, field parameters, and bookmarks.
Data Integration & Backend Connectivity:
· Integrate Power BI with Snowflake, Azure SQL, and other cloud/on-prem data sources.
· Leverage Direct Lake and Delta Table integration for high-performance data access and real-time analytics.
· Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure efficient data pipelines and refresh strategies.
Embedded Analytics & Web Integration:
· Develop and implement Power BI Embedded solutions for web-based analytics delivery.
· Ensure secure and scalable embedding practices aligned with enterprise architecture.
Performance Optimization & Advanced Analytics:
· Write and optimize complex DAX expressions for performance and maintainability.
· Develop and maintain Power Query (M) scripts for advanced data transformation.
· Monitor and tune report performance, dataset refreshes, and query execution.
Deployment & Administration:
· Implement CI/CD pipelines using Git, TMDL, and Tabular Editor.
· Manage Power BI tenant settings, workspace governance, and user access controls.
· Support version control, automated deployment, and rollback strategies.
Teamwork & Leadership:
· Collaborate with business collaborators to translate requirements into technical solutions.
· Mentor junior developers and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
· Document architecture, data models, and deployment processes for maintainability.
· Other duties as assigned.

The Principal I, Power BI Architect role designs and implements enterprise-grade Power BI solutions to drive data-driven decision-making. It requires deep expertise in Power BI architecture, DAX, SQL, and cloud platforms like Azure and Snowflake. The position also emphasizes leadership in Power BI Embedded implementations, CI/CD practices, and governance standards.



Qualifications

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL: 


· 7 years of experience in Power BI development and business intelligence.
· 3 years of experience in a Power BI architect or similar leadership role.
· Consistent track record of delivering scalable, high-performance BI solutions in enterprise environments.
· Expert-level proficiency in Power BI, DAX, Power Query, and M.
· Strong SQL skills for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
· Deep understanding of semantic modeling and table design for analytics.
· Experience with Snowflake and Azure Data Services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Synapse).
· Proficiency in integrating Direct Lake and Delta Table.
· Hands-on experience with Power BI Embedded and web integration.
· Proficiency in CI/CD tools including Git, Tabular Editor, and TMDL.
· Understanding of Power BI capacity unit (CU) consumption and optimization.
· Knowledge of Power BI governance, security, and tenant administration.
· Familiarity with Power Apps for extending analytics workflows.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
