Overview

THE ROLE: 

 

The Business Architect (BA) is responsible for aligning business goals with technology strategy within the Global Enterprise Architecture. This role bridges business and technology, bringing together people and processes to deliver streamlined, technology-enabled business services. The Business Architect crafts and maintains enterprise business capability architecture blueprints and coordinated roadmaps, guiding strategic investments and execution. Collaborating closely with business and IT portfolio leaders, this role sets and helps implement the strategic direction of the portfolio. Successful candidates will be creative, critical problem solvers who can build and sustain high-performing teams, focus on quality and scalability, and nurture a customer-focused, innovative, and collaborative culture.

In this role, the Business Architect will drive digital and interpersonal transformations by developing a deep understanding of interpersonal capabilities and strategies. They will find opportunities, threats, and limitations, aligning business processes with technological advancements to improve operational efficiency and strategic execution. Candidates must demonstrate deep knowledge of Business Architecture, technical expertise in multiple technology domains, and a detailed understanding of the global Business Architecture landscape, innovation, and mature judgment, with accountability for the assigned area of the enterprise architecture operational model.

As this role progresses, the individual tackles more leadership responsibility and serves as an advisor to GDTS on business architecture, providing BA leadership across the organization, from top-line decision making down to the project planning level. 

 

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: 

  • Leads Business Architecture area of the Enterprise Architecture operational model 
  • Ensures that Business Architecture is aligned with overall EA priorities and strategies
  • Partners with Business to understand process improvement needs and translate these into actions and/or projects and/or solutions.
  • Be responsible for the development and maintenance of enterprise business architecture blueprints that articulate our business strategy, future state business and technology architecture, and multiyear execution roadmap
  • Collaborate with and lead other architects to build and document standards and patterns that can be demonstrated for future re-use, and actively seek opportunities to demonstrate industry solutions for new business offerings and services
  • Develop and maintain reference architecture which includes the reference model, guiding principles, standards, patterns and usage guidelines
  • Identifies areas where EA Processes can be improved and influences EA leadership by defining the benefits, and handles the improvements
  • Works closely with other EA functions to cohesive operations and reduces frictions
  • Advances and follows through on issues identified in unit teams
  • Crafts an environment that improves teamwork, ensuring positive and productive working relationships are developed and maintained across the service ecosystem.
  • Participates in strategic planning
  • Establishes positive relationships with business and technology partners
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
  • Develops and chips in to complex documentation, analytics and diagrams as required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Leads a team (increases with level)

Qualifications

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL: 

 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for both executive and technical audiences 
  • Proven track record in delivering world class business architecture capabilities in a complex, international organization of relevant scale and complexity
  • Comfortable driving successful delivery through a large, geographically disparate team comprised of internal employees
  • Validated experience with business architecture of the large-scale global technology landscapes
  • Prior experience in developing enterprise level architecture strategies and roadmaps, portfolio investment planning, defining, and analyzing enterprise business capabilities
  • Experience with one or more Enterprise Architecture Frameworks and Methodologies (TOGAF, ITIL, Zachman, etc.)
  • Experience with Application Portfolio Management tools and frameworks
  • Experience with Technology Risk management frameworks
  • Good knowledge of IT and Business Processes
  • An ability to grasp, store, structure, and analyze varied sources of information to tackle unplanned or foreseeable problems in enterprise landscapes
  • An awareness of industry-relevant technologies and the competence to demonstrate, in clear terms, how a proposed service would impact a company

Certificates / Training:

  • One of the Enterprise Architecture Frameworks and Methodologies Certificate (TOGAF, ITIL, Zachman, etc.)
  • LeanIX Practitioner Certification (optional - could be obtained during onboarding) 

Experience:

  • 10+ years in IT or enterprise architecture related role 
  • 7+ years architecture and design experience with platform implementations across Business, Application, Data, and Platform architecture 

Education:

 

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or Business Administration or equivalent

Preferred

MBA or other advanced degree
